Cleaning Tips
When applying polish consider using a synthetic mop such as our rayon mop. Cotton mops tend to leave lint in the finish.
A shiny surface is not necessarily a slippery surface. All Johnson Professional Floor Finishes Conform to the AS/NZSPEC for Non slip surfaces.
Depending on porosity of the floor 1 litre of polish will cover 30-40 sq. metres per coat. Do not apply polish at temperatures below 10 degrees centigrade.
Never push down on the contents of a waste basket, glass or pointed items may be hidden.
Getting the Correct Bag Size For Your Bin
Bag Width: use half of the outer circumference of the container
Bag Length: Use the height of the container, add half of the diameter, plus 75mm for the overhang.
Application of Floor Polish
Equipment and Supplies:
- Johnson's Sealer and Polish as selected.
- Mop bucket/wringer/polish mop preferable rayon/plastic liner
Safety
Open all doors and windows for ventilation.
Product must be used according to Manufacturers instructions.
Sealer mops must be clearly marked or labelled so they will not be used for other purposes.
Procedure
- The floor must be clean and free of residue from stripping chemicals.
- A procedure that enhances the appearance of the floor after stripping is to dry buff the floor first using a 3M brand 51 line red polishing pad. Follow this by dust mopping before commencing the next step.
- Line the polish bucket with a new plastic bin liner.
- Pour the selected Johnson's Sealer into the lined bucket. Pour only what is necessary as you cannot return any unused product back into the original container.
- Use a new mop or one that has only been used for applying polish. We recommend a rayon mop for polish applications. Prior to using a new mop rinse in fresh warm water and wring out.
- Mark the area to be coated by outlining the area you are going to fill in with polish. Usually this area should be about 510 sq. metres in size. Apply a medium coat of polish. Fill in the area using overlapping figure eight motions. Be sure there are no drips or ridges left in the area just coated.
- After the polish is dry to touch, wait an additional 10 minutes before applying additional coats. Total drying time is usually 30 minutes. If a fan is used to increase air circulation, drying time can be reduced to 15-20 minutes. A fan is also helpful during periods of high humidity. Do not point the fan directly at the floor. Point it up to circulate the air above the floor.
- Apply the first coat up to the wall. One or two additional coats should be applied 150mm away from the wall to avoid build up along the edges. The final coat should be applied to the wall.
- A minimum of three coats of polish should be applied to the floor.
- Discard plastic bucket liner. (DO NOT RE-USE OLD POLISH). Wash out bucket.
